Regional Vision. Federal Opportunity. State Action.

Featuring the Release of ARC's Regional Housing Strategy

​

Housing activity across metro Atlanta is accelerating. Local governments, nonprofits, developers, philanthropy, and other partners are committing significant resources to affordable housing, even as rising costs and continued population growth add urgency to the challenge.

​

At our September 2 Forum, Forum Founder and Moderator Bill Bolling will bring together regional, state, and national perspectives to examine an important question: How can we leverage this moment—and better align the tools and opportunities now available—to produce and preserve more affordable housing across the Atlanta region?

ARC Regional Housing Strategy

The Atlanta Regional Commission will use the Forum to publicly introduce its new Regional Housing Strategy, a framework for coordinated action on housing across the 11-county region. After words of welcome and context from ARC Executive Director and CEO Anna Roach, ARC's Samyukth Shenbaga, Managing Director of Community Development, and Kristin Allin, Regional Housing Planning Coordinator, will present the new strategy.

ROAD to Housing

We'll then turn to Washington—and the recently enacted 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act. Liz Osborn, Vice President of Policy at Enterprise Community Partners, will join us in person to provide an overview of the legislation, focusing on the provisions with the greatest potential to strengthen affordable housing production and preservation. Osborn is one of Enterprise's federal policy leaders and co-chairs the ACTION Campaign, a national coalition of more than 2,400 organizations working to expand and strengthen the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit.

Aligning the Opportunities

We'll conclude with a panel bringing the regional, federal, and state perspectives together. Shenbaga and Osborn will be joined by Maureen Freehill, Deputy Commissioner for Housing Assistance and Development at the Georgia Department of Community Affairs. Freehill brings two decades of affordable housing experience to DCA, spanning housing development, homeownership, supportive housing, and state housing policy. Before joining DCA, she served as Director of Affordable Housing at National Church Residences.

Together, the panel will explore how ARC's new strategy, federal policy changes, LIHTC and other state housing programs can reinforce one another—and how we can turn this convergence of activity into more housing production and preservation across metro Atlanta.
